Com Tam Thuan Kieu

The BF and I went out to dinner with my dad and grandfather this weekend. We tried out a new Vietnamese place the BF and I noticed one night back from Indian Restaurant. It seems to specialize in broken rice, but only the BF ordered broken rice. I think my whole family can’t resist pho whenever it’s on the menu, which is why we all ordered noodle soup dishes.

The eggrolls were good and came with plenty of lettuce and basil for people who like that sort of stuff. What was also nice was that it came with pickled carrot and radish.

The BF had vegan spring rolls which looked pretty good. They even came with vegan dipping sauce. I think the rolls were filled with lettuce and vegan shredded pork skin. On the menu they’re called “Vegetarian Shredded Roll”.

The BF’s meal was Broken Rice with Vegetarian BBQ and Bean Curd (#21). It sounded more exciting than it was. I guess the vegetarian BBQ was the vegan shreded pork skin and the bean curd was just fried tofu. It did come with sauce to pour on the rice, but that didn’t make it that much more exciting.

Daily special @ Com Tam Thuan Kieu
I got the daily special even though I didn’t and still don’t know exactly what it’s called. There was a sign over our table that said “Special” and then some Vietnamese stuff. My grandfather, who speaks Vietnamese was not much help in translating. From the waiter who had limited English, I gathered that it was clear noodles and pho-like soup, so I ordered it.

The bowl that came was pretty damn tasty. It had shrimp, two quail eggs, some slices of liver, some beef, ground meat, some other meaty-type stuff all in a pho-like broth. The noodles were indeed clear and had a nice chewy texture. I still don’t know what it’s called, but I think the English name should be “Cholesterol Raising Soup.”
