New Year’s Day Dinner
I went to my parents’ house for New Year’s Day dinner and my mom made a delicio dinner that was almost completely vegan — we also had peking duck and braised pig ears. She’s really good at making mock duck (pictured on the right) out of tofu sheets, nori, and veggie meat floss. It doesn’t taste exactly like duck, but it has a satisfying chewy texture.

The dinner spread (clockwise from the green dish): you chai, spicy napa cabbage salad (and a bowl of non-spicey for the weaksauce people), roasted peanuts with fine sea-grass, mock-chicken stirfry with baby corn and straw mushrooms, mock duck, kou fu with shiitake mushrooms, and in the center shredded potato, onion, and bell pepper stir fry.
