Shadowrun
I haven’t enjoyed a multiplayer game so much since the old days of TFC. Don’t let the cheesy box art and the hefty $60 price tag scare you away. Even though this game doesn’t have a singleplayer campaign, the multiplayer is worth it. The trick is to find a group of friends to play with. Playing on a random public match with 13 year olds is not fun, but finding a match with people who actually know how to play as a team is what makes this game enjoyable.
The balance in this game is amazing. For every magic or tech upgrade, there’s another one to oppose it. It sounds simple on paper, but I rarely seem games balanced as well as this one. I hope that FASA or someone comes out with downloadable maps soon though. The same handful of maps keeps getting played and it gets boring after playing the same map twice in one hour.
Bomberman Live
Okay, this was more of an impulse buy. I was going to wait till reviews started trickling in, but let’s face it, if it’s the same classic gameplay, it can’t be bad. I like playing the classic map. The other maps seem too gimicky with their trapped doors and the bright colors hurt my eyes, not to mention it’s hard to tell what tiles can be cleared way. The 8 player matches are crazy. My tactic in those is to just try to stay alive while everyone kills everyone else. I’m tempted to get another Xbox 360 controller just so more people can get in on this.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I finished this book yesterday. When I started it, I was sad because it was the last book and there would be no more Harry Potter after this. I don’t feel that way anymore though. It’s a fitting finish to an amazing series. Overall, I liked the book, but I thought the middle dragged on a little. It felt like JKR was adding fluff to the middle just to pad the pages. The epilogue was also a bit silly — too much in the direction of fan-fiction for me.
The way JKR tied everything together is impressive. I like how seemingly small details in previous books turn out to be huge plot points in this book. This makes me want to reread the whole series from the first book all over again.
