superflashI know this may sound dramatic, but the Super Flash is the best rear blinky I’ve ever seen. If your’e looking for a rear blinky, this is definitely the one to get. I liked it the first time I got blinded by it at my LBS.

The Super Flash can be put on two settings: solid, where it’s just a bright red light, and blinky, where it’s like you have a blindingly red strobe light attached to your bike. I bought two so I could have one set on blinky and one on solid. The light also comes with some mounting brackets that fits around most seat tubes and those were pretty easy to install. The light just snaps on and off the bracket. The light’s angle when snapped onto the bracket can also be adjusted vertically, which is a nice touch.

One thing I wasn’t really paying attention to, but I really like now, is that the light can be easily turned on/off/blinky by squeezing the top and bottom. There’s no small pesky switch to look for. Just a squeeze-sensitive piece of plastic below. It makes turning on the light while seated forward on the bike easy. The price of the light was also a nice selling point. I got mine for less than $25 at the LBS.

The only complaint I have about it is that it uses AAA batteries instead of AA, but I heard from some guy at Planet Bike that they’re looking into AA-battery versions in the next model.

I have been using several of these for several months fairly heavily and the AAA batteries are still working great.

Yeah, I’m surprised at how long these batteries last. I still have the ones that came with the light in my lights and they’re going strong.
