Some Updates
I’m reading The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. I read Interpreter of Maladies by the same author and liked it enough to check out her second book. The Namesake could be described as a coming of age novel about a boy, Gogol, struggling with the confusing aspect of his name as well as finding a balance between American and Bengali culture. I’m 3/4 of the way into the book and enjoying it. It has a lot of similarities with White Teeth, especially in regard with the Indian diaspora, but it still feels like a different story than Zadie Smith’s.
I started playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Blue Rescue Team, hearing how it was different than the typical Pokemon game, which I grew tired of after realizing that they were all the same, but with different monsters. This one is uncannily like Nethack, which is great since I’ve been looking for a portable Nethack for a while. I haven’t even finished the first intro mission yet, but I can tell I’m going to like this. The only gripe I have about it so far is that the UI is terrible! I wish the developers offered more choices in how to customize the top and bottom screen.

I just read a book of short stories by Mark Helprin - The Pacific and Other Stories. Helprin can write like noone else I’ve ever read. I recommend it.
