Clinique Almost Lipstick - Black Honey

I had an urge to buy some type of lip-color the past week and after a lot of glowing reviews of this particular color, I picked up Clinique’s almost lipstick in Black Honey. The color in the tube was a lot darker (indeed, it was black) than I expected, but luckily it doesn’t look like this on my lips. This color claimed to look good on everyone, and while I don’t know if that’s true, it didn’t look too bad on me. I like how it makes my stand out, but in a way that it looks like I’m not wearing anything at all.

I have pretty fair skin, so I was afraid this color would be too bright or too red for me, making me look like I was a 7 year old trying to play dress-up but luckily this wasn’t the case. I’m not sure if I should call it a lipgloss or a lipstick, but it’s a litle bit of both, which explains the “almost lipstick” name. It comes in a stick like lipstick, but it goes on translucent and smooth, like a gloss. I think the secret to its color going well with everyone’s lip is that it lets your true lip color come through with only a hint of pink or red to help.

The only complaint I have is that the color wears off quickly even when I’m not eating. I put some on today on the way to work and it was gone by the time I was ready to go to lunch. Fortunately, it wears off pretty naturally, so I wasn’t left with weird splotches of color on my lips. Since it’s kind of like a gloss, I didn’t expect it to last too long, but for the price $16 after taxes, it should last a little longer than just 3 hours.
