My East Coast Visit

I’m back from the east coast and very glad I live in California. New Jersey was hot and sticky and New York was the same and stinky. Despite that, I did have a good time on my vacation.

I got in Wednesday night, and went out into the city on Thursday. New York’s Chinatown is HUGE! It was like being in China! Well, maybe with far less bicycles, but it was still pretty big. W and I got some vegetarian dim sum, which was decent. It wasn’t superb, but they did a pretty good job making most of the items taste like their meat counter-parts.

Friday, W and I went into the city again and saw Avenue Q which was hilarious. The musical was pretty raunchy, so of course, I enjoyed it. There was a father and teenage daughter sitting a few rows in front of us and I felt a little uncomfortable for them during the raunchier scenes and songs. It was definitely not something I would bring my dad to. Even though I already had a delicious pastrami sandwich before the show, I couldn’t resist when we passed a White Castle after, so I finally tasted my first White Castle burger, and man, it was good.

Saturday, we stayed in NJ for W’s grandparents’ anniversary party, which was a little boring for me, since the house was full of people I didn’t know. I did get to sit out on the porch and watch fireflies, and that was kind of relaxing and not something that I could do in LA.

In short, it was a good trip despite the boring parts. Would I do it again? Not right now, but maybe in another year or two and next time not when it’s so hot, sticky, and stinky.
