I went to the farmer’s market yesterday and bought a candy mint plant to start my little mint garden. There were other types of mint that smelled good, like pineapple mint and chocolate mint, but the potency of the candy mint made the buying decision for me. Luckily, it’s a pretty easy type of mint to plant, so if I get really good at it, I can start buying other types of mint. I’m hoping that in a few weeks, I’ll have enough mint to have mojitos every day, or at least enough to dry and make tea with. While looking up recipes with mint today, I came across a mint pesto recipe that replaced basil with mint. While I love mint, I don’t know if I love mint enough to make pesto with it.

Speaking of pesto, Spring Fever hit me yesterday thanks to the sun and warm weather, and I made pesto with W. From scratch! It tasted great tossed on some angel hair pasta and soy sauce glazed asparagus. The pesto could have been a bit more garlicky, but other than that, I think I’m ready for my own cooking show. I think it should be called ‘I Hate To Chop Stuff.’

    Why not “Reluctant Chef”?

Because it’s not that I don’t like cooking. I just hate to chop stuff.

You could always shred stuff with your fingers or crush it with a hammer. That’s what my grandmother used to do with garlic and such – put it under wax paper and WHAM!

She also had a mean swing when paddling us horrible grandsons for being bad – a fairly frequent occurance.

I’ve planted half a dozen herbs out back. The cat likes to nibble on some of them.
