Review: Silent Hill
Silent Hill was better than I expected. Being a movie adaptation of a popular horror game, I thought Silent Hill was going to be a cheesefest with lots of horrible acting. The acting wasn’t stellar, but at least it didn’t take away from the twisted plot. I’m really glad they stayed true to the atmosphere of the game in the movie. There was a lot of wandering around and blinding fog, which got annoying at times, but it felt exactly like the Silent Hill of the games. The sound effects and music even sounded like they were lifted straight from the score of the game.
The only thing I didn’t like was the long “Okay Stupid, I’ll tell you what REALLY happened” explanation at the end. That felt too much like a cut scene from a game and didn’t really mesh well with the rest of the movie.

Silent Hill had one of the most twisted plots of a horror movie I’ve ever seen and I still can’t really make sense of it, but so far, I think Rose and the lady cop were dead to begin with. They died in the first crash going into Silent Hill. Foggy Silent Hill is actually some sort of purgatory, which is why Rose and the copy couldn’t leave after entering it and also explains why while Rose was in foggy Silent Hill’s school house, she couldn’t see her husband, who was in the Real World Silent Hill school house. The purgatory explanation also accounts for why the cultists didn’t seem to age. The school headmistress/leader of the cult was the same age in the flashback as she was in Foggy Silent Hill, so she must have died along with the rest of the cultists in the fire. Since they were tarnished souls (because they took people’s lives) heaven didn’t want them, but because they still had their (albeit twisted) faith, the devil couldn’t touch them. During the Dark Silent Hill times (signaled by the air raide sirens), the devil/Alessa could lure people into Hell. The demons running around (except for Pyramid Head) are actually the tormented souls of those who left purgatory and went to Hell, but they look like they’re trapped in their own skin because they’re actually trapped in their own private hell. All of that also explains why at the end, when Rose and Sharon/Alessa went home, even though they were at their house, it was still foggy and Rose’s husband couldn’t see that they were there. I think that Alessa somehow possessed Sharon in order to expand purgatory outside the borders of Silent Hill.
All of that would have made sense except that Rose’s husband and the other cop found empty cars outside of Silent Hill and no bodies.

If they died at the beggining, why didnt rose’s husband and the guy policeman find their bodies? Or at least the jeep??
If they died, then they dissapeared. They definetely dissapeared from the “Real World”. If they did disappear, whats to say that they didnt die?
Something someone pointed out that (almost) fits the notion of pyramid head- notice how he first shows up when her husband is searching for her in the town? The long and short of it (ha ha), is that pyramid head is supposed to suggest masculinity…i mean, pyramid head.. yeah, that’s what they wanted to get across. In the grand scheme and psychology of it, it really works: His behavior is constantly aggressive, blind rage, and no subtly. Anyone invades his turf, he tries to cut them down. I could really go on, but I’m just a stranger, after all ;p
this is the weirdest and goofiest ending to a movie ever i think that the film was good and true to the games but for the people making this to not realize that the ending kills this film is stupidity on the highest level.
my suggestion to all who haven’t seen this film and are going to is skip the last five minutes on the first time around.
it was actually a really good movie. I have played the game, but never finished it, and the movie did have alot ofsounds and music like it. Some scenes looked pretty much like the game. At first alessa wasnt at bad devilish girls or witch, what i think she was a Lefty girl. Many people in the past thinked that lefty people were posses, which is a tremendous lie. when the sacrifice went wrong and killed all the spectators, Alessa Did survived with 3rd grade burns ( like wut it said in the report that Rose’s husband reads) when she is in the vaccum or the white box (i dont know wuts called) the Devil came, and alessa pretty much sold her sold to him, so she could get revange. but in order to the devil alessa take revange Alessa needed a Innocent pure sould to get into the church so she could take revange. Thast why Rose says she knew Sharon was her daughter, because Rose was randomly chosen by alessa to help her get revange.
The people in the church are in a purgatory state and the darkness well is pretty much alssas hate. i took me alot of thinking to get to this conclution but i think is a good theory. What do u guys think?
im just lost……sorry im blonde. thanks for trying though! i hated the ending..thryll never be together because sapposedly shes dead and hes gota die to be with her. true
love: go kill yourself to be with your wife and kid!
ok, question. WTF does the cop [ cybil ] have to do with anything. If the demon is in alessa & sharon is alessa’s child & Rose is sharons adoptive mother the devil should only want them. Like why does cybil end up in the demension with them if she has to relativity to them ? the father & the other cop didnt enter the hell world of silent hill & that cop helped alessa & the father well is the father so why not them?
OK. Youre all retarded. Play all four games and youll know what the fuck the meaning of it all is. period. That movie doesn’t come close to explaining anything. Its more or less the preview of what all went down. the story is so much more.
