Review: Minerva (a HL2 mod)

I just finished playing Minerva and it was great. It looks like the short part I played, Metastasis 1, was just the first couple of released chapters of an ongoing mod. It took me about 25 minutes to finish, so yes, it was short.

I didn’t start really enjoying Minerva until the last 10 minutes, when the back ground music fully kicked in. The map was beautiful and on par with single player Half-Life 2, but it was the sound track that really made me like it; what a great addition to the atmosphere underground.

The only complaint I have is that the mysterious AI that transmits to the player at pre-determined parts of the game kind of distracted from the somber atmosphere. The AI was too sarcastic and cryptic and made me think of Cortana’s mean and bitter older sister, if she had one.

I can’t wait for the next chapters to be released.
