I was really excited about Mario Kart DS coming out today. I was ready to treat myself out to a nice romantic date to Fry’s Electronics to pick the game up on sale for $25! Luckily, learning from my previous mistakes (my failed attempt to buy a Darth Tater), I called Fry’s beforehand. Unfortunately for me, they didn’t have it in today.

I thought about it, and figured even if I could get it tomorrow, I’d have to drive another hour past my house (thanks to the traffic) just to get to Fry’s so I can buy the game for $25 instead of $35. I didn’t think that $10 price difference is worth the waste of gas and time, so I tried some local game retailers nearby. GameCrazy didn’t have it. GameStop didn’t have it. EBGames didn’t have it. Target didn’t have it. Kmart didn’t have it. As a last resort, I called Walmart.

Walmart had it! Or they thought they did. I talked to the brilliant guy working in the electronics department and our conversation went like this:

me: Do you have Mario Kart DS?
employee: Uh…we sure do!
me: How much is it?
employee: (really quickly) $49.99.
me: Really? It’s only $34.99 on your website.
employee: That’s because our price differs from the website.
me: It differs from your own website? Why?
employee: Because on the site, it doesn’t count shipping and handling. If you count shipping and handling, it comes out to be $49.99.
me (feeling really skeptical): Uh huh. So when did this game come out?
employee: Oh, it’s new. Like um…two weeks ago.
me: Ok thanks. Next time, do a better job at lying. Bye.

I don’t know that employee couldn’t just tell the truth and say they didn’t have it in stock yet.

Thanks to my lack of will-power, I’ll probably end up buying this game tomorrow during a break from work. No! But I can’t! I vowed never to pay full price on a game ever again! Maybe I can get BestBuy to price match…

i totally scored and got this game from circuit city last night for $23.99. i had them price match fry’s, but they do that extra 10% off the difference, so i got an extra dollar off.

as much as the demand for this game is, they hadn’t put any out on the shelves by last night. after searching the game section for about 5 mins, i went to an employee and asked where the heck Mario Kart DS was. after about 20 mins of searched, someone finally produced a copy for me to purchase.
