Indigo Prophecy, which I’ll call Fahrenheit from now on, since I’m playing the Euro version and that’s what it’s called, reminds me of the old game Dragon’s Lair. The whole thing was mostly a movie, except that at key moments, the player has to press a few buttons at the right time to progress.
Thankfully, Fahrenheit is more involving than that. The whole game resembles a movie, from its introduction scene where credits roll, to the camera affects being used at important moments. Most of the time, the player is free to move around and interact with the environment in third person view, but there are plenty of button-mashing mini-games scattered throughout.
I think Berklee called this “Shenmue on crack” and that’s a pretty good description. Unfortunately, I think the game’s controls get in the way of me completely enjoying it. The controls seem really clumsy at times, like in the scene where I had to find some keys and open the door before time ran out. Thanks to the clumsy controls, I had to redo that scene 3 times because my character kept running into things.
Right now, I’m stuck at one part where I have to sneak into a hanger without being caught by the guards. I’ve been trying to hide next to the trucks that run past, but the guards discover me each time.
