I went to a Thai restaurant for lunch today. The food was mediocre, the service was a bit less than mediocre, and I did not have enough cash to pay for the whole meal. I put the cost on my credit card, but not the tip because I know credit card companies deduct money from stores and restaurants for transactions and some restaurants take that deduction from the waitress’s tip. Since the service was not up to par, I only tipped 15% in cash, crossed out the “Tip:___” line on the credit card receipt and just wrote the plain total on the merchant receipt.

When I got home and was going over my bank accounts, I noticed the restaurant not only charged me for my meal, but took the liberty of adding an extra 20% to the total! What the hell? I gave them tip in cash and they still charged me? And it wasn’t as if I didn’t fill in the “Tip:___” blank on the receipt. I remember specifically putting “$0.00″ on it.

So tomorrow, I’m going back there (after getting lunch some where else) and raising hell until I get my money back. How dare they be sneaky like that.

[update #1] I checked my bank account this morning and the entire transaction, which was in “pending” when I wrote this last night, disappeared. Now it’s as if I didn’t pay for the meal at all.

[update #2] All is back to normal again. The correct transaction got put through.
