I’ve finally finished Ico

After a couple of agonizingly long hiatuses from the game, I finally finished playing Ico. It took me as long as it did to finish the game because there were some frustratingly stupid deaths I had to go through. Not from the puzzles, which weren’t hard, but because I kept jumping off cliffs inaccurately, accidentally falling to my death, or losing Yorda the Princess to the shadow portals.

I can’t really say I’m pleased about the ending. It was a bit vague and anti-climatic. I guess the game’s strong point isn’t what happens at the end, but what happens during the game. I have to admit, the last battle stage with all the shadow demons gave me the chills. There’s nothing like creepy organ music and seemingly never-ending enemies to give me goosebumps.

Unfortunately, the game doesn’t have much replayability, so it’s delegating to being the game on the shelf that I keep telling people they should play just for the experience. It’s a pretty good game, if you don’t mind the sometimes amazingly stupid Princess Yorda, who should be dubbed the retard princess because she’s not very responsive to commands once in a while.
